Making a Pamphlet-Style Notebook

We've just posted our very first tutorial on our own YouTube channel!

This is the easiest bookbinding technique: sewing a single signature (one group of folded pages) into a card cover. It's a great way of quickly making a quick book without the use of glue. Use blank pages or printed, or ones you've already written, doodled or sketched on. These instructions are also helpful for those who want to refill their tartan notebooks.  Add a decorative first and last page or more throughout your book to make it extra special. You can also sew in the opposite direction, leaving your thread tails on the outside and tie on beads or charms. Add your own personal touches for an easy, budget, but heartfelt gift.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Some paper, including a scrap page for a template (mark 3-5 holes evenly spaced with the top and bottom holes 0.5 - 1cm from the edges)
  • Card of the same size
  • Needle (preferably a bookbinding needle but a darling needle will do fine)
  • Strong Thread (waxed linen thread is best but tapestry thread is fine when waxed - run through a candle - and twine is great too).
  • Awl - optional. You can use your needle, carefully!

Happy bookbinding : )
